ABOUT SARAH MIATT

Growing up in the south of England, I studied Art in Sheffield. After which I moved to Holland  for six years where amongst my other endeavors held life drawing classes.

I have been living in Tuscany now for 30 years where I exhibit  and hold  various Art courses and workshops  including Drawing. Life drawing, engraving, color mixing.

The main source of my inspiration, as it has been for many artists, is the Tuscan landscape. However, that which lies below the surface holds much more interest. In a land under constant human habitation for three millennia, the layers of civilization have left a wealth of information going back to the time of the ancient Etruscans and beyond.

My personal journey in search of Etruria and its neighboring ancient cultures, has led me to archeological sites and museums throughout the Italian peninsula and surrounding islands of the Mediterranean.

Current work focuses on the essence of and man’s relationship to, the land itself  from which these cultures arose

My work place,my studio where I also hold many of my classes,is set amongst the trees,in and on the Etrurian landscape, from which comes my inspiration.

I work in various media – oil, watercolor, collage, pastel and mixed media. I also enjoy the serendipity of printmaking – dry point and mono print – and the freedom of pen and ink drawing.
